What Is It?

Understanding Rot Treatment

Timber rot is caused by fungal decay that breaks down the structure of wood. There are two main types — dry rot (Serpula lacrymans) and wet rot. Dry rot is the more serious of the two, capable of spreading through masonry and across large areas. Wet rot is more localised but still causes significant structural damage if not treated promptly.

Soft, spongy, or crumbling timber — particularly skirting boards and floor joists
Cuboidal cracking pattern on timber surfaces (dry rot)
White or grey mycelium (fungal growth) on or around timber
Mushroom-like fruiting bodies on walls or floors
Musty, mushroom-like smell in affected areas

Our Approach

How We Treat Rot Treatment

Our CSTDB-qualified surveyors carry out a full timber and damp survey to identify the extent of the rot and its moisture source. All affected timber is removed and disposed of safely. Surrounding masonry is treated with specialist fungicide. New treated timber is installed where required. The moisture source is identified and remediated to prevent recurrence. All works are backed by a long-term guarantee.
